Back in June, the Chicago City Council voted to rename the city’s famous Lake Shore Drive in honor of Jean Baptiste Point DuSable, a Black trader who is widely regarded as Chicago’s founder.

Well the day has finally come for the official name changing of Lake Shore Drive, with so many things changing in Chicago due to Covid, the city has finally recognized the founder of now the third largest city in the United States of America.

So many people don’t know the history behind Chicago, but if they did it would only leave them scratching their head while Supporters contended the change was long overdue and a step toward racial justice.

DuSable is believed to have lived at the beginning of the Chicago River in 1790, and established a trading settlement that led to the formation of the city of Chicago in March of 1837, which the city would finally receive its birth right.

But it makes you wonder, how black peoples can be treated so bad in a city founded by one of their own.

Chicago history, seems to always lead right back to black people rather you like it or not.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot, was present to seal the deal making today a very special day for black people as a whole.

Martin, The Founder of African Caribbean International Festival of Life, is one of the main people responsible for making this change today.
