With a few failed attempts, now the world can say they have seen the results of a successful hand and face transplant.

After a long night at work on third shift, Joseph Dimeo was driving home when suddenly he fell asleep behind the wheel leaving him crashed up in a burning vehicle. For Dimeo life would become a struggle, as he try’s to adapt to his new look he was left with after the car crash. Dimeo family was left with the idea, that he would never look the same again because of how much damage was done to his face leaving him with a lack of confidence.

There have only been two attempts to complete a patients face and hands, but this time it was a success thanks to the special team put together so this surgery was even possible.

The operation took 80 people across six surgical team’s plus two adjoining operation rooms, the operation was a huge risk which turned out to be a successful one for the history books.

The hands and facial tissue was removed and replaced with 3D print prosthetics, but in the other room his hands and face were being removed with accurate cuts which will prepare him for the donor tissue.

80% of his body was burned, so he still is dealing with a lot even after this surgery which actually happened a year ago.
